Amsterdam, November 15, 2016 I am introducing *The Bird*, an exclusive design lamp. With this new work, I bridge the gap between product design and my conceptual pop art. The lamp owes its name to two steel wings that can be opened to cast the full light onto the table top. By folding the wings closed, the light is dimmed, creating a more intimate atmosphere. I have redesigned the dimmer with mechanical simplicity. *The Bird* was created in collaboration with product designer Jelle Engel.

My love for vintage billboards and how they add color to the city at night led me to create this aluminum lamp, which can bring an urban atmosphere into both homes and offices. Lamps from factory halls and street lighting served as inspiration. With *The Bird*, I add design to industrial fixtures, alongside technology. Each lamp hides its own reflector with a graphic artwork on the inside of its wings. “Think of it as a surprise, a special touch, like a suit with a custom-made lining,” I say. With these hidden designs, *The Bird* also fits in with the lively paintings and interior products I’m known for.
Robust eye-catcher
*The Bird* is made of matte powder-coated steel with an aluminum reflector inside. These reflectors are available in different designs, enhancing every watt of LED light. The brass nuts on the inside of the lamp are the crowning glory of a rich choice of materials. *The Bird* is available in a length of 1.50 meters and a wingspan of 35 to 20 cm.
